Report on Visit to NASA by Students of BPS-2017)-

Educational trips add a new dimension to students’ learning away from the monotony of closed classrooms. This year, a chosen group of 19 students visited USA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida along with Washington, D.C. - its capital city and other famous places of USA.

The 11-day trip was a fantastic blend of activities of learning about the lesser known field i.e. space exploration by astronauts, their space vehicles etc., all through hands-on experience shared by an astronaut Mr. Ken Cameron,a veteran of multiple space odysseys, coupled with visits to various fun-filled locations.

The students spent the first two days training in NASA: touring the facilities at Kennedy Space Center, Rocket Garden Visit, exploring the launching - landing facilities for space shuttles, shuttle manufacturing sites and shuttle landing assembly building and catching a glimpse of NASA’s gigantic crawler transporters.

They had a wonderful experience of a ride on a shuttle launch simulator, having lunch with astronaut, shared his experience and enjoyed visit to Saturn V center and had overview of the mission to moon through I-Max movie experience.

It was a memorable moment for all the students when they visited the Disneyland and the Universal studios in Florida with an amazing array of attractions and live performances.

The next destination was Washington DC, the capital city of USA and the seat of power of the world’s most powerful country. A guided tour of the city’s historical neighborhood and monuments like Capitol Hill building and library of Congress helped the students to learn about how the U.S. government functions. The students also visited to the Smithsonian museum and the Lincoln Memorial.

The Bhartians also visited the world famed Hershey’s chocolate factory and the magnificent Niagara Falls. The team then advanced towards New York City for final leg of their journey with a guided tour of the city. They visited the Rockefeller Center, Wall Street, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, One World Observatory, Freedom Tower, U.N. Headquarters, U.S. Stock Exchange building and explored many other sky scrapers of Times Square.

On the ultimate day, the Bhartians ensued towards the Statue of Liberty - USA’s famous landmark through a ferry ride and enjoyed the breathtaking view of city skyline.

The 11-day fun-filled and enlightening tour culminated  with the memories that everyone would cherish lifelong.

“ Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit “

Keeping the same standpoint and to facilitate students to experience the beauty of yoga , environment  and humanity; a 3-day event (18 – 20 May 2017) ‘ Spark Of Yoga ‘  was organized in the school premises. With the spirit of optimism and delight, the guest of honour,Swami Harshanand, senior monk of the Ramakrishna Order; exuded his warm mesmeric presence amid the congregation of the Principal, Ms. Savita Arora, Director Mr. Rajesh Batra, staff members and students.

Bringing to light the time tested benefits of Yoga; Swami Ji enlightened the camp with his inspiring and august presence. Thereafter, Swami Ji tutored the students with the nature of Yoga which ignited the light of self-awareness in all.

During the interactive session, the gathering enjoyed various physical exercises and asanas. Students were also sensitized towards the Environmental issues and the channelization of the Panchtatvas. Swami Ji not only focused on the health parameters but also propagated the need of clean environment and its impact on health. Activating participation of youth in the protection of environment and prudent use of natural resources was the main objective of the session. Swamiji also stressed the importance of laughter in one’s life. Gathering was even made accountable by taking the pledge for conservation of water and planting of trees.

As the name of Swami Ji suggests the session was full of HARSH and ANAND, and the session was encompassed with the echoes of the laughter of the students. The sessions rejuvenated all of us and made us realise the importance of the need to take a haltin the rat running race of life and ponder about our health and environment.
